When submitting his script to studios, screenwriter Adam Herz titled it, “Untitled Teenage Sex Comedy That Can Be Made For Under $10 Million That Most Readers Will Probably Hate But I Think You Will Love”. It was later changed to “East Great Falls High”, then “Great Falls”, and finally, “American Pie”.
To replicate an erection in one scene, the crew cooked a sausage, stuck it on a pencil, and wrapped it in aluminum foil. It was still warm when it was placed between Jason Biggs’ legs.
Members of the California punk band Blink 182 are shown during the Internet broadcast scene. Their song “Mutt” is playing in the background.
The apple pie is from Costco.

In the original version, when Stifler drinks the semen-filled beer, Thomas Ian Nicholas’ character says “Hey Stifler, how’s the man chowder?” However, the MPAA would not allow this line (not even in an NC-17 rated cut), so the line was changed in postproduction to “Hey Stifler, how’s the pale ale?”
The “pale ale” Stifler drinks is actually beer with egg whites in it.
“The Bible” is located under the Dewey decimal system section marked “Fluid Dynamics”
Blink 182 are credited in the film as “Mark Hoppus, ‘Tom Delonge’ and Scott Raynor” yet in the film it is new drummer Travis Barker and not Scott Raynor.
In a number of scenes, one can see Michigan license plates on the front bumper of the vehicles. Michigan drivers are assigned only one plate and it is placed on the back of the vehicle.
In the scene where Jim was running down the road to get to his house, Jason Biggs got heatstroke. They had to pack his shirt with ice to cool him down while he was running. Afterwards, they rushed him to a doctor. In another incident, while at home Jason Biggs also took too many Zinc supplements and became ill, so Jim was completely written out of the scene where Kevin and Finch are talking to each other while Finch is playing golf.
The line, “Say my name, bitch,” from the scene between Jason and Michelle was ad-libbed on the spot by Alyson Hannigan. The director and producer found it so amusing that it was kept in the final cut.
Goofs
There are no native palm trees in Michigan, yet the shot where they are playing lacrosse there are palm trees visible all around.
Set in Michigan, at one point a parking lot full of cars with California license plates can be seen out a window if you look sharp.
The QuickCam has been glued at a 45-degree rotated angle in its base, as evidenced by the visible tripod mounting bracket normally hidden down in the base; however, it still produces rightside-up images.
Lacrosse officials are seen wearing black shorts. Officials of men/boy’s lacrosse wear white shorts.
When Nadia removes her clothes, she is shown to be wearing a pair of bikini-style panties. However, when she removes the underwear a few minutes later, it is clearly a thong.
While Jim, Finch and Kevin are watching the webcast of Nadia, there are dates available on the screen, all referring to the month of July. However, being in school an preparing for prom, it would have been somewhere between February and April.
In the library, the sex manual is hidden under the classification “982.1 Fluid Dynamics”. Under the Dewey Decimal System, 982.1 is History of Argentina; fluid dynamics is 532.
