The scene in the grain bin when the kids are sinking into the corn like quicksand is inaccurate. While that is a danger (usually fatal), the only way a person sinks like that is when the grain is being removed from the bottom of the bin. That’s when a person is drawn down and suffocated. If the grain is stationary, there is no danger of sinking like that.

There are many things Lee could have done to save his children other than sacrificing himself, e.g. screaming like he ended up doing but then simply running away stealthily, or throwing the axe anywhere away from the children and distract the monster that way.

Some of Lee and Evelyn’s behavior is completely unrealistic given the situation that they’re in. Beau’s death, for example, could have been prevented easily if they had simply monitored his actions more closely, e.g. by not allowing him to wander around the store unsupervised/not leaving him there alone, or by using the common-sense strategy of one parent in front for recon and one in the back to keep an eye on everyone.

Some of the children’s behavior is completely unrealistic given the situation they’re in. Although some might argue that Beau might not have understood the gravity of the situation, Regan should certainly know better than to ignore her parents’ instructions and give Beau the rocket. Furthermore, later on she also puts her own and Marcus’s life in jeopardy when she wants to leave the silo’s roof simply because she felt unappreciated by her father.

The corn plants in the fields are green at day 472. This means they were planted in the current season. They have a full silo of corn, so there is no reason they would have needed to plant an entire field of corn to feed their small family. Also the perfectly aligned rows imply that they were planted by machine, which would have been extremely loud.
