The first part of this book is like a Simon show, with so much focus on him that I almost forgot there were other characters. The group faces an old enemy who’s made a comeback, and secrets about Jace’s battle with Valentine are spilled. The story felt like it was treading water until the last 100 pages, with a bit too much setup for my liking. Simon is a great character, but he’s more of a supporting player than a leading man.
The last 100 pages finally pick up the pace, but the ending is as predictable as a sunrise. You’ll see what I mean when you get there. Overall, there were a lot of pages that felt like filler. The last part of the book is decent, but it drags on a bit, teasing us instead of giving us what we want. It’s not a terrible book, just not as thrilling as others in the series.
