Barovia
Village of Barovia
A lonely settlement shrouded in eternal mist, the Village of Barovia is the first and most dismal place most adventurers encounter upon entering Strahd von Zarovich’s domain. Crumbling homes with sagging roofs line the muddy streets, their windows dark and lifeless. The air is thick with the scent of damp earth and decay, and an unnatural silence grips the town, broken only by the occasional distant wail of despair.
Most villagers keep to themselves, their faces pale and gaunt, as if drained of hope. They know there is no escape from the land of Barovia, and those who defy its master, Count Strahd von Zarovich, do not live long.
Key Locations
Blood on the Vine Tavern – Originally named “Blood of the Vine,” this once-proud tavern has fallen into disrepair. Owned by three Vistani women, the establishment is dimly lit, filled with stale air and the faint scent of cheap wine. The only customers are usually outsiders or broken souls drowning their sorrow. A nervous barkeep, Arik Lorensk, silently polishes glasses, his mind seemingly lost in an endless loop of despair.
Burgomaster’s Mansion – Home of the recently deceased Kolyan Indirovich, the former village leader who opposed Strahd. His daughter, Ireena Kolyana, now seeks safety from the vampire’s relentless pursuit.
Church of the Morninglord – A crumbling place of worship where Father Donavich prays endlessly for his son, who has been turned into a vampire spawn and locked away in the undercroft.
Death House – An abandoned manor that lures the curious to their doom with its dark secrets and restless spirits.
