Blue Exorcist Vol 6
Overview: Fight Hellfire with Hellfire! The heads of the various Myodha temple families gather to discuss recent events surrounding the Eyes of the Impure King. Revelations at the meeting only deepen suspicion of Suguro’s father, Tatsuma, and angry accusations follow. Tatsuma’s silence on the matter isn’t helping either. Amid all the swirling distrust, Rin tries to make sense of things but struggles to keep his flame in check. Then Rin receives a letter that may shed more light on the current situation – and the secret past.

This story really took a down turn. Most of the story is about Rin and his inability to control his power. Around this we have some dialog about the two Eyes that seem to be on everyone’s radar but no one seems to know anything about them. This is further complicated, with some pages that I kept turning back to see if I missed something, as they made little sense, or really they didn’t do a good job transitioning between different elements. So far this is maybe the weakest book in the series as far as quality story or character development. Even the big reveal was not all that exciting. I actually think the best part of the book was the first bonus story. It got my interest more than any of the main story.
Overall, this just didn’t seem to come together. It really lost itself in the ability to go in a direction. Even as the volume ended, I was not sure if they actually accomplished anything. I am hoping this was a setup volume for some big stuff in the next volume.
