This book started out a little slow, but it does pick up. It follows Professor Gedoin and his plans, which are not all on the up and up. That leaves the heroes to do something to stop him. Of course, it is never easy, and every turn has a surprise both good and bad. I like how this series could have easily focused on one person and his secret, but always finds a way to focus on others as well. It would be easy to focus on the son of the devil, but instead allows others to rise up and show how they also have abilities that rival his.

Overall, I enjoyed this book. It had a slightly slow start, but then really gets going. It has a few great moments that really have defined this series.
