Axiom Function – Pacifier (Omni Program)
Where raw talent cannot succeed, technology and bloody-minded determination may often overcome otherwise insurmountable obstacles. Such is the case with the Pacifier. Citizens that volunteer for service in the Pacifier ranks knowingly do so with grim resolve. They need display no particular psychological talent nor mental acuity. Instead, they need merely be willing to volunteer in the first instance. Nothing more. Each cadet knows that this bargain is one that confers astonishing power in exchange for nothing less than body, mind, and soul. Axiom scientists work with particular interests to ensure this deal remains enticing and worthwhile to the desperate and the desolate, and they do so by offering a raw force and accompanying prestige.
The Morituri, as the volunteers are known, undergo extreme physical and mental transformations that ultimately manifest as a technological miracle, the Pacifier. The volunteer citizen must suffer shocking surgeries that leave a cruelly contorted human husk. Both muscle and neuro-tissue are severed, linked, patched, and reintegrated in ways that defy common comprehension. The sustained life expectancy of the morituri volunteer rarely exceeds two years in the material world – which equates to lifetimes of unparalleled power in the Aetherium. It’s a devil’s bargain for sure.
The results, of course are notable. Contrary to the name, the Pacifier Mechs offer wondrous capacity for strength and violence.
