This is the season finale. It does not fully feel like a season finale, as it does not leave you on a big cliffhanger. The episode takes off right where the last one left off. Eddie was just shot and Buck is left thinking it should have been him. After a second firefighter is shot, it appears they are the targets. This puts them all in a place of wondering how they do their jobs while wondering if the sniper is targeting them. The LAPD is trying to track down the killer. Athena is brought in to do what she does best. During this time, Maddie is still feeling like she is failing as a mother. Finally, Buck is unsure where his relationship with Taylor is going. Of course, that is not all that clear.
Overall, this episode is excellent. It has a high action story with some mystery of who is targeting firefighters. It has the feel of a movie and packs a lot o action and story into an hour episode. At the end, it felt like all the stories that are going on, and the character interactions were left in a great place. It also has a magical moment between Hen and her family with the mom of the foster child they had in their care. I really appreciated that moment.
