Anatomy of a Magic Card

Mana Cost: Mana is the resource used to cast spells in Magic, and it is usually produced by lands. This is the cost to cast the spell. The colored symbols in the cost represent one of the five colors of mana, and the number in the gray circle represents generic mana that can be paid with mana of any type. For example, Thragtusk costs 5 mana, 4 mana of any color and one forest.
Card Type: The card’s type is found here. Card types include creature, artifact, enchantment, land, instant, and sorcery. Some cards also have more specific subtypes after a dash. The card in the example is both a creature and Best
Expansion Symbol: Tells you what card set the card is from and what rarity the card is. Black and White symbol is a common, blue symbol indicates uncommons, gold indicates rare, and red orange indicates mythic rares.
Rules & Flavor Text: This is where a card’s abilities appear. Italicized reminder text that helps explain what the card does also appears here. At the bottom of some text boxes, you’ll find flavor text that delivers a small amount of story behind the game and the card.
Artist Info / Rarity / Card Number: Tells you who created the art, the rarity of the card, and the card number in the set.
Power / Toughness: Found on creature cards, power (the first number) is how much damage a creature deals in combat. Toughness (the second number) is how much damage must be dealt to a creature in a single turn to destroy it.
