Praetorians – Axiom Subroutine
The Praetorians adore order. They believe in it with a wild and practical zealotry. They know the need for it in ways that few of the privileged could, in the gutters and desperate slums of the axiomite metropolii, they have defended on the hope and promise of the progress for simple survival. They have lived on the precipice of the civilized world and see quite clearly the hazard and ruin that awaits a state without the influence of a structured, systematic approach to the anarchy and chaos that waits the slovenly and inattentive. In very tangible ways, both in the Aetherium and Maeterial worlds, Axiomite principles of order and resolution have sustained individuals that would have otherwise been washed away beneath the relentless tides of filth, waste, murder, and corruption. In return for the mercy, they are willing to push themselves into the devoted service of Axiom ideals. It is quite genuinely their only option.
As suggested, the base Praetorian neither knows nor demonstrates any particular capacity in the Aetherium. In fact, these are often pulled from individuals whose intellect can only just sustain a coherent presence in the virtual world. All the better, the Axiom requires little more from these individuals than belief and sacrifice. The weight of their presence must handle the rest.
If identified, a Praetorian that demonstrates some measure of mental proficiency will often be redirected to more specific roles. The more aggressive and reckless of the Praetorian class will often be directed to the Grenadier tams, while those demonstrating a capacity for cunning and ruthlessness are often shunted toward the Venari teams that more thoroughly impose the Axiomite principles upon the multitudes.
Though seemingly everywhere within the Aetherium, Praetorian teams are some of the few profiles that exist in a near equivalent status in the material world as well. These gruff multitudes police that streets throughout the Axiom greater states and territories with brutish resolve. They are entirely responsible for maintaining the status quo and order among the populace. Often, Praetorian patrols will include both mundane individuals as well as linked officers so that they may simultaneously respond in both physical and aetherial form to any spontaneous situation.
