I have had some people tell me this is a great movie, and I have had a few say it was terrible. I am closer to the terrible side than I am to the it was so great side. The story follows a family that lives in a world that making any sound will get you killed. They are savaging what they can, as almost everyone has been killed at this point. The family has a challenge coming soon though as the mom played by Emily Blunt is pregnant. It is not long into the film, and you can see that they bend the rules a lot to make it work. From little kids not making a sound. To a girl that is deaf, knowing that she is not making any noise. To giving birth without attracting any attention. Right down to raccoons finally making enough noise to get destroyed. The premise seems like a good idea, it just does not work, as you have to bend the rules too much to allow for the family to be in the position it is in.
Overall, this film just has way too many inconsistencies to be something I could enjoy. I can overlook a few plot holes here and there, but when the plot holes start building off one another then I start to get frustrated and annoyed. The movie has a great premise and had the opportunity to be really spooky, but lost itself before it could become anything but a giant plot hole that disappoints.
