A Is For Alibi

Overview: A IS FOR AVENGER. A tough-talking former cop, private investigator Kinsey Millhone has set up a modest detective agency in a quiet corner of Santa Teresa, California. She’s a twice-divorced loner with few personal possessions and fewer personal attachments but with a soft spot for underdogs and lost causes.

A IS FOR ACCUSED. That’s why she draws desperate clients like Nikki Fife. Eight years ago, she was convicted of killing her philandering husband. Now she’s out on parole and needs Kinsey’s help to find the real killer. But after all this time, clearing Nikki’s bad name won’t be easy.

A IS FOR ALIBI. If there’s one thing that makes Kinsey Millhone feel alive, it’s playing on the edge. When her investigation turns up a second corpse, more suspects, and a new reason to kill, Kinsey discovers that the edge is closer–and sharper–than she imagined.

I decided to dive into this book because it boasts a lengthy series, and I’m a sucker for a good, long saga. The idea of using the alphabet as a theme intrigued me. The story revolves around Kinsey Millhone, a private detective hired by a convicted murderer looking to clear their name eight years after serving time. Can Kinsey solve this eight-year-old mystery, or will she strike out?

I must admit, this book gave me a bit of trouble. It failed to grab my attention and struggled to keep me engaged. One of the main issues was the rapid introduction of characters without proper development. I found myself constantly flipping back to figure out who was who and why they mattered.

Overall, this book was a bit of a disappointment. The mystery wasn’t all that mysterious, and the resolution was rather lackluster. It left me wanting more, but not in a good way.
