The 17th book in the series ended with a jaw-dropping cliffhanger that had me on the edge of my seat. However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when the 18th book failed to address that cliffhanger right off the bat. Instead, it decided to take us on a trip down memory lane with a flashback. I mean, come on, couldn’t they have at least given us a little taste of resolution before diving into the past?

Despite the slow start, things really start to heat up when we learn about a war criminal making their way to San Francisco. Of course, in a city known for its fair share of crazies, it’s no surprise that another one has found their way there. And then, three school teachers mysteriously vanish without a trace. Talk about a plot twist that grabs your attention!

As the story unfolds, you can’t help but get sucked in. The way the pieces of the puzzle are revealed just keeps you turning the pages, eager to see how it all fits together in the end.

While I was left slightly disappointed that the cliffhanger from the previous book wasn’t resolved, I have to admit that this story really hit the mark. It’s brutal, it’s intense, and at times, it’s downright uncomfortable. Just a heads up though, this book contains some heavy themes of violence and assault, so it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. But if you’re up for a wild ride that will keep you guessing until the very end, then buckle up and dive into this gripping tale.
