This collection is the first part of the 52 series. The idea behind the story is to have a year when Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman are out of the picture. On top of that, it is told with each episode consisting of a week of time divided up in days and is told in order as they would be happening in real time. This is a very interesting concept and was based on the tv series 24 in regard to how the story is told. At first, this was both a good thing and a bad thing for the comic. It caused a lot of skipping around in the first few episodes to continue on the timeline. Once you get through about 4 issues, you start to really like how this works out. In this collected edition, all issues ends with a one or two-page recap by those responsible for making the issue happen. Many times this detracts from the story, but it worked really well in this story. The artwork is very well done and is very crisp. It helps bring the story to life, which is why you would read a comic anyway.

Overall, this is not my favorite work, but it is still a very good read. As the story went on, I got more and more invested into the story and plan to continue reading the series as soon as I can get my hands on the next collected edition.
