Wightstaff

Rare Quarterstaff
Requires Attunement
The Wightstaff is a grim magical quarterstaff carved in the Vikmordere style, with natural patterns in the wood shaped to resemble lingering spirits and haunted forms. Images of death adorn its length, including skulls, bones, and ravens, giving the staff an ominous and unmistakable appearance. Though unsettling to many, it is a revered item among servants of deities associated with death, the grave, or necromancy.
A creature must spend a short rest attuning to the Wightstaff before accessing its magical properties.
You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon.
Holy Symbol: The Wightstaff functions as a holy symbol for a servant of a deity associated with death or necromancy.
Death Spirit: While the Wightstaff is on your person, whenever you cast a spell that deals necrotic damage, such as Inflict Wounds, the staff gains 1 charge.
The Wightstaff can hold a maximum of 3 charges at one time.
While holding the staff, you can expend its stored charges to cast one of the following spells:
3 Charges — Animate Dead
You expend all 3 charges to cast Animate Dead.
2 Charges — Blindness/Deafness
You expend 2 charges to cast Blindness/Deafness.
1 Charge — False Life
You expend 1 charge to cast False Life.
The Wightstaff rewards wielders who channel necrotic power, storing a portion of that dark energy for later use. In this way, it serves both as a weapon and as a reservoir of deathly magic, allowing its bearer to unleash additional necromantic effects without expending their own spell slots.
Its ability to serve as both a magical weapon and a divine focus makes the Wightstaff especially useful to clerics, necromancers, death priests, and other spellcasters who draw power from darker divine or arcane traditions. The staff’s unsettling iconography and practical magical effects make it a prized tool for those who walk close to death and command its power.
