Synopsis:  The 1977 animated version of The Hobbit is a classic television movie adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved fantasy novel.  Produced by Rankin/Bass, The Hobbit brings the story of Bilbo Baggins to life with a memorable animated style, folk-inspired music, and a storybook fantasy tone that has made it a nostalgic favorite for generations of viewers.

The movie follows Bilbo Baggins, a quiet hobbit who enjoys the comforts of home in the peaceful Shire. His simple life changes when the wizard Gandalf arrives and invites him to join a group of dwarves on a dangerous quest. Led by Thorin Oakenshield, the dwarves hope to reclaim their lost kingdom and treasure from Smaug, the powerful dragon who has taken over the Lonely Mountain.
