Kingdoms of Veyrath
Once, the Kingdom of Veyrath stood as a shining example of what the world could become. At its heart lay the great capital city of Crossroads, a place where roads, cultures, races, and destinies met beneath the shadow of a noble castle. Humans, elves, bugbears, merchants, warriors, scholars, and wandering heroes all found a place within its walls. To the north, champions tested their courage in the grand arena, not for bloodlust, but for honor, glory, and the chance to prove their strength. To the east, the royal menagerie displayed creatures from distant lands, a symbol of the kingdom’s wealth, wonder, and reach.
For a time, Veyrath thrived. Its king was fair, its people hopeful, and its allies strong. The elves descended from their cities in the sky to trade wisdom and magic, while even the bugbear clans of the north found peace and purpose through alliance with the crown. Crossroads became more than a city. It became a promise.
Then the prince was murdered.
With the heir gone and the royal line broken, grief settled over the throne. What began as sorrow slowly became suspicion, fear, and decay. A dark force took root in the cracks of the kingdom, spreading quietly through noble houses, forgotten streets, and desperate hearts. Over the next two hundred years, the light of Veyrath faded.
Now Crossroads is a shadow of its former glory. The castle still rises at the center of the city, but its banners are torn, its halls whispered through by secrets, and its authority weakened. The arena stands stained by a harsher age. The menagerie lies broken and overgrown. Heroes no longer gather in the streets. The bugbears have returned to their northern lands, the elves rarely descend from their sky cities, and the capital has become a place of thieves, corruption, and dangerous opportunity.
Yet Veyrath is not dead.
Beneath the ruin, old roads still lead to Crossroads. Forgotten oaths still bind the land. Ancient allies may yet answer. Somewhere in the darkness, the truth of the prince’s murder waits to be uncovered — and with it, the chance to decide whether Veyrath will fall completely, or rise again from the shadow.
