Deal Breaker by Harlan Coben was one of those rare finds that instantly reminded me why I love reading. I picked it up after seeing it recommended in a “if you like this, try this” list, and within just a few chapters it became my favorite book I’d read in a long time.
At the center of the story is Myron Bolitar, a character written so exceptionally well that he feels immediately real. His dialogue is sharp, witty, and endlessly entertaining—I could practically picture Harlan Coben writing these lines with a smirk on his face. Bolitar is smart, sarcastic, and relentless, making him the kind of protagonist you want to follow through an entire series.
Adding even more strength to the story is Windsor “Win” Horne Lockwood III, Myron’s best friend and partner. While he may seem like a sidekick at first glance, Win is very much an equal, creating one of the strongest and most entertaining duos in modern mystery fiction. Their banter alone is worth the read.
The plot pulls Myron into a dangerous investigation when his main client—a superstar quarterback—receives a mysterious phone call that sets everything in motion. As a sports agent with a complicated past, Myron quickly finds himself deep in a case filled with secrets, suspense, and unexpected turns. Once he’s on the trail, there’s no stopping him, no matter how high the stakes climb.
With a perfect blend of mystery, tension, clever twists, and unforgettable characters, Deal Breaker is an outstanding introduction to the Myron Bolitar series. It’s the kind of book that makes you want to immediately grab the next installment—and that’s exactly what I plan to do next, just to see what kind of trouble Myron Bolitar gets into from here.
