This episode is based around a train wreck that happens outside L.A. County. The 118 responds to find a surprise. Abby is there. We already knew that, but Buck did not. He also discovers some other things as well, but the moment is too big to get caught up in them. The train wreck part of the story was not near as epic as some other daring rescues this team has had to make in the past. It was also a surprise to me that this episode packed in some huge names. We have Brooke Shields and Rumer Willis making an appearance. The wreck also had a story about a father and son that are struggling in life. It is a grand adventure that gets put in the middle of a train wreck. This story felt out of place to me, as we go no follow up on what happened. Actually, they put a lot of work into this scene just to show once again that Hen is amazing at what she does. Athena is also struggling with calling herself a victim of what happened in the last episode and how she will trust herself in the future.
Overall, for a season finale, this felt a little on the light side. The train wreck was a remarkable set, but the story just didn’t reach the level of others in the series. Adding in Abby didn’t work out the way it might have been envisioned. Actually, they didn’t even fully close her chapter, so who knows. I hope the next season has Buck moving on, and we can never hear about Abby again. It seems that Connie Britton playing that character has no desire to keep that character going in the future. Actually, the trailer for this episode is almost misleading the way it was presented. That could be contributing to what my expectations were for this episode. Maybe I had high expectation, or maybe this episode just didn’t deliver on the level I hoped it would. It only left us with a minor cliffhanger and that really was not a cliffhanger, so that also surprised me. It could have been better, but it also could have been way worse.
