If you looked at the review of the last episode, you will know that I had high expectations for this episode. From a man crawling out of a grave, to ghost calls, to fathers that are on their death beds. This episode, like most episodes in the series, is based around a theme. The theme is none other than Halloween. Really, though, most of the story in this episode had little to do with Halloween. This was kind of a let-down for me. The best part of this episode was the man crawling out of a grave. It maybe had the most to do with Halloween. The other one that tried was the one that took place in a haunted house. Though it seemed a little forced. The part of this that involved the 911 crew really didn’t amount to much. Of course, the crew still had to deal with a ghost call and a some remains that are found. Then comes the story about Eddie and his son. We learn more about why his baby mama is no longer in the picture. This really has nothing to do with Halloween and also seemed like potentially it didn’t fit.
Overall, it could be that I had too high of expectations for this episode. Perhaps I really wanted a theme around Halloween and when I got it, there was not enough Halloween. Still, at the end of the day, I am being overly critical, and this episode had a lot of good things just maybe not the good things I was hoping for
One final thought is they are spending too much screen time on a character that was played by an actress that chose not to be on the show. Buck should have moved on a long time ago. Unless they have a plan to bring the character back one day or the writers and producers hope that Connie decides to come back for a season or some guest spots. It just strikes me that halfway through a season she didn’t sign on for, we are still hearing about the character. I don’t see it as growth for Buck but something that is holding his character back.
