This episode spends a lot of time building up a story. I have to give the writing some credit as they have had a long build up to some things that are revealed in this episode. We have Hen filling in as Chief and also trying to past her medical exams. This leaves her exhausted and struggling to keep up. She is also put in a difficult position of trying to figure out who can be saved and who must be let go when a building collapses. Athena get’s put in a difficult spot when her father has a stroke and his outcome is not certain. Old issues with her mom resurface and both of them are to stubborn to let it go. I did appreciate a late interaction that took place between Bobby and Athena’s mom. It was a great moment. The episode does leave on a bit of a cliffhanger and it will be interesting to see how that plays out over the next few episodes.
Overall the episode was a decent one. It does spend some time setting up what is going to happen in the next few episodes. It will be curious the direction it goes. It felt like a lot of the main characters were just in the background in this episode. It will be curious as well how they find ways to keep all of them having a role that keeps them as main characters. It could be that as the costs per episode have risen they will start to rotate who gets the most screen time out of the main characters. I have seen other series do this to try to keep costs down. Let’s hope it does not impact the epic feel that this series has pulled off over and over again, it has always felt like the pull off movie quality episodes.
