I will be honest, I was not excited to see an episode that was another backstory. The story follows a case that happened back at the beginning of Athena’s career. The murder weapon that was used to murder her fiancé back then has been found, and this causes Athena to go on the hunt for the killer. Of course, she is told to stay out of it. They then use this story to weave in flashbacks to the early days of her career. For once, the flashbacks are used in a way that makes sense. They are not overused, and they add to the story. Actually, I was just as interested in the flashback part of the story as I was in the main story. I do feel that the story does have some holes in it. This does bring it down a bit, since for the most part this series does not do that. Some dialog towards the end seemed so forced as well. Yes, I realize I hold this series to high standards and at times I get critical over small details.
Overall, this is another backstory episode. At least they have spread them out of the series instead of doing a bunch in a row. For the most part, this is a backstory that is decent. It was nice to see how Athena got started in law enforcement and why it has meant so much to her.
