Videos for the game 3-D Worldrunner

Welcome to the 3-D WorldRunner videos page! Here you’ll find gameplay footage of me diving into this fast-paced, retro NES platformer that blends forward-scrolling action with sci-fi weirdness. 3-D WorldRunner, originally released by Square in 1987, is one of those classic games that looks simple—but don’t be fooled. It can be incredibly challenging, especially if you’re playing it for the first time like I did.
The first video featured here shows my very first attempt at playing 3-D WorldRunner. Spoiler alert: it’s not a masterclass in technique! I had no idea what some of the enemies and objects were, and I missed quite a few jumps. But part of the fun in retro gaming is figuring things out as you go, and I quickly began to understand how the game works.
By the second video, I started to redeem myself. I managed to get past World 1 and show off some better timing and decision-making. It’s a big improvement from my first run, and it gave me hope for making it even farther in later videos.
One thing that’s clear: 3-D WorldRunner takes practice. It’s one of those old-school games where frustration and satisfaction go hand in hand. Mastering it requires memorizing level layouts, building muscle memory for tricky jumps, and sharpening your reflexes to dodge enemies and obstacles at high speed. Even then, a little bit of luck doesn’t hurt!
